Combe Farm Shop Update

March 3, 2025

It is with great regret and sadness that we have taken the difficult decision to close Combe Farm Shop.

A combination of challenging trading conditions and rising costs have meant the business has become unsustainable.

We would like to thank our customers for their support and especially our staff for their hard work over the past few years.

LOG UPDATE

Open Garden

July 20, 2023

We were very happy to present Hospiscare with a cheque for £1366! This was raised through cake & plants sales at our open garden in May.

We also raised over £2000 on the gate with the National Garden Scheme!

Thank you to everyone that helped out and everyone that came along & supported on the days. The weather was perfect & we were so happy to share our beautiful garden with everyone.

LOG UPDATE

February 20, 2023

SOLD OUT…..

Due to unprecedented demand for our barn seasoned logs we are now sold out until further notice.

We do have plenty of processed logs in store but these have not yet been in store long enough to be ready to burn and, due to our own self imposed quality control, these will not be sold until such time as they are ready.

It is likely that these logs will be ready from August onwards.

Many thanks to all of our customers old and new – we look forward to supplying you ahead of next winter.

Charity Boxing Day Swim

January 26, 2023

We were very lucky and on a beautiful, sunny Boxing Day the Combe Estate team (Richard, Karissa, Justin, Myles, Ava and some other brave friends) ventured down to Sidmouth to take a dip. Refreshing is the word I think we will use but we did it, pink speedos & all! Apologies to those that witnessed that!

Thank you to everyone that has donated, all our supporters that cheered us on, on the day and The Bedford Hotel for the hot chocolates afterwards.

We have raised over £4500 for Hospiscare, which is amazing!

December 13, 2021

Just over a week ago we welcomed the newest venture to the Combe Estate…..Fresh Fish at Combe!

Fresh Fish at Combe, located at Combe Farm Shop, is run by Barry and Darcy. Barry is a local fisherman who works his boat out of Lyme Regis, after the success of direct fish sales over the last 2 years he has decided to team up with stepson Darcy to open a fresh fish shop here in Honiton. Barry will be supplying the fish shop direct from his own boat as well as supporting other Lyme Bay fisherman by offering their catch as well.

Feel free to pop down and meet the boys & see what they have to offer!

The Air Quality (Domestic Fuels Standards) (England) Regulations 2020

May 24, 2021

As a result of The Air Quality (Domestic Solid Fuels Standards) (England) Regulations 2020 introduced on the 1st of May this year we have changed the way we sell our firewood.

The regulations are designed to prevent the sale of wet firewood and reduce the release of harmful pollutants into the atmosphere.

We have always strived to ensure that our firewood is properly seasoned and, aim for our barn seasoned wood to be sold at around 20% moisture content when an average reading is taken.  This is done by splitting a log, taking two readings from the inside surface and one from the outside to give an overall average.

The new regulations prevent the sale of non-certified firewood with a moisture content of less than 20% in quantities of less than 2 cubic metres.  Whilst our aim is to sell our wood as dry as possible, we cannot guarantee that our barn seasoned fire wood will consistently give moisture readings of less than 20%. This is because we do not force dry our barn seasoned wood and rely on air circulation under cover to bring down the moisture content. As a result of the new regulations we will be unable to sell our barn seasoned firewood in quantities less than 2 cubic metres.

Please find guidance below on how to further dry your logs at home.

Advice Sheet for drying logs

We will continue to sell our klin dried firewood in 1 cubic meter units.

Thank you for your continued support and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the office on 01404 45576.
